Zoom and navigate the timeline¶

Task: get closer to the arrangement to edit detail, then travel a long song without everything shrinking to unreadable slivers. Gloopy's timeline zooms on three independent axes — time, track height, and waveform amplitude — and the zoom and scroll position are saved with the project.

Zoom time (horizontal)¶

Ctrl+scroll (or a trackpad pinch) zooms around the pointer — the beat under the cursor stays put.
= / - zoom in / out around the centre.
The - + Fit cluster in the toolbar does the same for the mouse.
W fits the whole song to the width (the old default).

Travel the timeline¶

Once you're zoomed in past the width, move along the song with:

the horizontal scrollbar pinned under the arrangement, or
Shift+scroll, or
Ctrl+drag a box (marquee) to jump straight to a region — it frames the box on both axes at once.

Zoom track height (vertical)¶

Alt+scroll makes the track rows taller or shorter.
H fits all tracks to the available height.

Rows growing past the viewport scroll vertically as usual.

Zoom waveform amplitude¶

For audio clips whose waveform is too flat to see:

Ctrl+Alt+scroll, or [ / ], scales the waveform overview — independently of track height, clamped to the lane.

Zoom presets¶

Set up a couple of favourite views and flip between them:

Shift+1…Shift+5 stores the current view (all axes) in a slot.
1…5 recalls it.

Frame the selection¶

F zooms to the selected clip.
E is a zoom toggle — jump to the selection, press E again to return exactly where you were.

In the piano roll¶

The piano roll speaks the same language: Ctrl+scroll zooms time, Alt+scroll zooms pitch, Shift+scroll scrolls, and W / F / E fit / frame / toggle. It has its own horizontal (timeline) and vertical (pitch) scrollbars.
